The thermometers installed in our weather stations are set up to World Meteorological Organization standards. The thermometers are extremely sensitive and to ensure a high degree of accuracy, they are regularly calibrated. All of our weather stations (and all other official stations around the world) are set up this way so that comparisons can be made between them.
The diagram below shows how a thermometer must be set up to ensure comparable ambient temperature readings:
